In 1910, during the construction of the Cairns-Kuranda railway, a landslide downed Tunnel 10 and the supply of ale. With brains, brawn, and beer as motivation, workers perilously rolled barrels of brew around a mountain to ensure cheer was served – cheers to that.

A traditionally styled Hefeweizen with prominent clove and banana aroma, medium body, low bitterness and tart, spritzy character from increased carbonation provides for a refreshing finish.
He came to Australia looking to dig up gold, but instead ended up growing it. Thanks to Mr. Wong and his Chinese compatriots, the banana industry in FNQ flourished, ensuring a prosperous future for many of the towns in these parts – give that man a beer that has a lingering banana aroma.

The historic lighthouse on Low Isles, built in 1878, stands tall on the idyllic setting that captain James Cook noted as being a “low small island” more than a hundred years before. Post WW2 an influx of immigrants found work on sugarcane farms. In the sweltering sun the cane cutters worked the fields of sugar cane under brutal conditions. Wielding their cane knife they set a rhythm without complaint. The more they cut, the more dollars they earned. Stopping only for a quick slug of water they pressed on, strengthening an industry which Far North Queensland was built on. Here’s cheers to the unnamed canecutters of our region.

March 16, 1911 – the day Port Douglas was flattened like a shaken-up beer by a very mean cyclone. Battered but hardly beaten, a band of gutsy locals rebuilt, and today their spirited fortitude lives on in the ale you’re holding.
